About the Role

ResQ-X is moving from founder-led finance into a properly run finance function. The Financial Accountant is the day-to-day owner of our books, controls, and reporting. You will close the books monthly within 5 working days, manage cash and working capital across our AGO, PMS, and Rescue operations, and own compliance with Nigerian tax and statutory bodies. You'll work directly with the CEO, Executive Director, and B2B Accounts Manager — and you'll be the financial backbone of a company that handled over ₦115M in monthly revenue in March 2026 and is targeting significant growth on the back of a seed round.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting cycle: bookkeeping, journal entries, bank reconciliations, ledger maintenance, and monthly close on Odoo (or equivalent ERP).
  • Produce timely, accurate monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) within 5 working days of month-end, with variance analysis vs. budget and prior period.
  • Manage daily cash and treasury: bank balances, payment runs, supplier disbursements, and a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast.
  • Operate and account for the ResQ-X Overdraft credit facility — generate invoices, track utilisation, accrue interest at 4.8% per 30-day cycle, monitor receivables aging, and flag breaches to the Accounts Manager and CEO.
  • Manage Accounts Payable end-to-end: vendor onboarding and KYC, 3-way matching of POs, GRNs, and invoices, payment scheduling, and supplier reconciliations across fuel suppliers (PMS and AGO), towing partners, and operational vendors.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable end-to-end: customer invoicing, receipt allocation, statement issuance, monthly customer reconciliations, and the aging report. Partner with the B2B Accounts Manager on collections and dispute resolution.
  • Daily reconciliation of fuel volumes received vs. dispatched vs. delivered to customer, in partnership with Operations. Flag any variance > 0.5% within 24 hours.
  • Manage tax compliance end-to-end: VAT, WHT, PAYE, Company Income Tax, LIRS filings, and CAC annual returns. Maintain a clean compliance calendar with zero late filings.
  • Lead the working capital relationship with the company's lenders and credit partners — drawdown requests, repayments, covenant tracking, and lender reporting.
  • Support the annual external audit and any due diligence work tied to fundraising or institutional partnerships.
  • Implement and continuously improve internal financial controls — particularly around fuel inventory, petty cash, and field cash handling.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager on cost-of-service analysis per vertical (Rescue, Refuel, Fleet) and per major B2B account.

Performance Metrics

  • Monthly close completed within 5 working days — every month.
  • Zero late tax filings or statutory penalties.
  • Cash forecast accuracy within ±5% on a rolling 4-week view.
  • DSO on the B2B Overdraft book held within agreed thresholds (target to be set with Accounts Manager).
  • Fuel volume reconciliation variance held below 0.5% monthly.
  • Clean external audit with no material findings.

Qualifications & Experience

  • ICAN (ACA) qualified, or ACCA qualified — finalists with strong PE Stage 2 / Skill Level performance will be considered.
  • Minimum 4 years post-NYSC accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a structured finance team.
  • Prior experience in downstream petroleum, logistics, fleet, or any inventory- and cash-heavy B2B business is a strong advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with Odoo, QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero — Odoo strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets — pivots, lookups, sumifs, basic financial modelling.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and Nigerian tax law (FIRS, LIRS, PENCOM, NSITF, ITF).

What You Bring

  • Quiet rigour. You'd rather double-check a reconciliation than explain a missed naira.
  • Strong written communication — you can produce a clear board-ready management account commentary, not just numbers.
  • Discretion and integrity. You will see every payment, every salary, every contract.
  • Comfort working in a startup: ambiguous edges, fast cycles, evolving systems.
